The Materials Science and Rheology Group has an opening for a Senior Scientist with an emphasis on rheological studies to support fundamental research and development efforts for advancing Owens Corning's industry leading position within core building products and identifying new functionality for our customers of tomorrow.
The Senior Scientist will lead technical exploration at the front end of the innovation process, focusing on expanding understanding of material properties and material interactions with the purpose of identifying opportunities for product/process improvement, new product development, and securing intellectual property.
This position is an Enterprise role, with exposure to all three of Owens Corning's business units (Composites, Insulation, and Roofing & Asphalt), supporting projects intended to have significant company impact.
The Senior Scientist position will require an advanced understanding of material rheological properties and testing methods, as they apply to both a research environment as well as industrial settings.

Individual ContributorJOB RESPONSIBILITIES Lives the Owens Corning safety stand and adheres to all safety responsibilities Ensures rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures at Owens Corning.
Actively participates in routine safety meetings and safety audits.
Authors and revises Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Shares safety best-practices and observations within the corporate network.
Identifies new opportunities to improve our safety culture.
Practices good laboratory housekeeping habits and chemical safety hygiene.
Brings technical expertise to solve complex problems Develops a strong understanding of the state of the science concerning chemistry and rheology used in Owens Corning processes and products.
Leverages expertise in fundamental material properties to ideate, experiment, and validate new concepts and hypotheses.
Designs, executes, and evaluates well-planned experiments to establish understanding of material characteristics.
Develops rheological models to connect the dots between material properties and product / process relationships, identifying critical parameters for control of desired effects.
Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Competitively drives results.
Executes ambitious plans with a sense of urgency and purpose.
Applies critical thinking to make evidence-based decisions.
Provides leadership in Innovation projects Appropriately manages project work through utilization of Owens Corning project management tools and protocols.

JOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM
Qualifications:
Master's degree in chemistry, polymer science, material science or related technical field required Understanding of the fundamental principles of dynamic shear rheometry and extensional rheology.
Hands-on experience with operation of rheological instrumentation and test method development.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical information to various levels within the organization.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), data analysis software, and image analysis applications.
Solid understanding of statistical methods and applications, design of experiments, and various analysis and evaluation techniques.
Laboratory experience and understanding of good laboratory practices required.
Willingness to travel up to 20% (conferences, training, plant trials, etc.
).
PREFERRED
Experience:
Expertise in structure-property relationships and interaction with industrial processes.
Coating rheology experience (paints, coating, adhesives).
Demonstrated track record of effective project leadership within large cross-functional teams.
