Process Development Engineer

PURPOSE OF JOB The Process Development Engineer is key to growing Owens Corning's and our customers' business through driving the use and continuous development of Owens Corning's Roofing Components portfolio.
This position plays a key role in product and process development, customer technical support, applications support and expansion, and driving productivity within the product line.
The Process Development Engineer will work closely with other technical teams, manufacturing teams and business and operational managers.
The Process Development Engineer will lead key workstreams within polymer-modified asphalt and self-adhered roofing underlayments and provide ongoing process technical support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES PROCESS TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP (80%)Manage technical process development initiatives for the Polymer-Modified Asphalt and Self-adhered product portfolios.
Enhance current processes and support development of new processes and technologies to secure and strengthen competitive advantage.
Engage and iterate with R&D, Capital Delivery, Manufacturing and Stable Operations to understand needs and develop process improvements that unlock opportunities for our products and markets.
Lead process qualifications in conjunction with product partners to provide growth for the business and margin improvement.
Solve complex problems by robustly applying the scientific method.
Coordinate testing, analyze data, draw conclusions, make recommendations and implement improvements to processes and test methods.
Recognize problems and initiate corrective actions.
Communicate technical results to project teams.
Author summary reports on technical findings, when applicable.
Support product development initiatives with new or expanded technology capabilities to further differentiate products in the market.
Monitor the marketplace (technical leaders, suppliers, competitors, industry organizations) to identify and react to changes such as competitive activity, customer process changes, code and regulatory requirements, and the emergence of new technologies.
Generate technical insights which lead to discovering product or process intellectual property and competitive advantage.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (20%)Define and drive process improvement projects, partnering strongly across functions to align and deliver successful outcomes.
Lead process and technology projects from from lab-scale to full-scale, including build/installs of new manufacturing lines or unit operations.
Define, manage and communicate the scope, timeline and resources needed.
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to effectively manage changes throughout the project.
Provide technical recommendations and feedback to others, sharing knowledge throughout the organization.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with people across different functions in the organization.
JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field 3 years or more industry experience in process and/or product development is required.
Demonstrated ability to generate new and innovative process designs/improvements in continuous manufacturing processes.
Demonstrated use of fundamental engineering and business principles to deliver process innovations.
Demonstrated ability to develop and meet key milestones, to work and communicate effectively with people across different functions of the organization, and to technically contribute to the development of solutions.

PREFERRED
Experience:
Experience with asphalt and non-asphalt based adhesive technologies preferred.
Technical Expertise in Self-Adhered Membranes/Polymer-Modified Asphalt Experience in consumer branded product development and/or process.
Demonstrated track record of project leadership from concept to commisioning within large cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated project management effectiveness in R&D and/or manufacturing environments is preferred (developing plant trials, communication plans, awareness of budget restraints, etc.
).
Experience with statistics to drive data based decisions and develop customer-inspired test methods.
Multi-functional leadership skills (ability to manage across functions from product management, marketing, operations and other R&D functions).
