Prototyping and Chemistry Technician

Location: Granville, Ohio - United States The technician actively participates on a lab team focused on fabricating fiberglass composite parts from various pilot lines and mimics for customer processes. The technician should have proven laboratory skills for handling chemicals and understanding basic principles of fiberglass or carbon composite liquid resins like epoxy, polyester or vinyl ester. This role provides technical support for composite fabrication teams by performing diverse skilled tasks in the areas of composites manufacturing including sheet molding compound (SMC), vacuum infusion, pultrusion and injection molding of thermoplastics. In addition, the role provides fundamental support to share best practices across global labs and communicating findings with internal and external customers. Reports to : T30/Fabrics Product Leadership Span of Control : Individual Contributor JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Executes composite R&D prototyping job requests Reviews initial trial request from engineer or scientist, then clarifies trial plan details including safety, quantity, and timing Before trial, technicians work in a small team to set-up pilot line or process (SMC line, molding press, infusion table, pultrusion line etc) During trials, technicians use various fabrication processes and equipment to fabricate the required parts Hands fiberglass materials and mixes chemicals following standard operating procedures and non-routine trial plans to create experimental composite parts for testing Documents trial settings, so that results can be repeated and reproduced without error Responds to upset conditions in a safe, controlled, and organized manner Clearly communicates limitations or problems encountered during a trial to the requester and team leader Interfaces with other lab organizations for material characterization including Mechanical Properties lab and Analytical lab Provides Technical Support to Customers and Organization Fully understands requestor requirements and provides new concepts or ideas to improve trials and process in the pilot line to meet the needs of the requestor and business Improve productivity of the lab through efficiency improvements, operator training and process capability Support the transfer of new product/processes from the laboratory to manufacturing plant/customer as needed JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Associate?s degree is requires, preferably in science or engineering. Bachelor?s degree is preferred Travel: 5% to 40% travel to manufacturing facilities and customers as required by project EXPERIENCE: Experience working with liquid chemicals and mixing including knowledge of safety concerns with incompatible chemicals Working knowledge of composite processes is preferred but not required Comfortable working with hand-tools, measuring devices, and instrumentation, thermosetting and thermoplastic resins and other chemicals KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES : Data analysis and basic statistical understanding like average means, standard deviations and statistical significance is strongly desired Proficiency employing typical productivity software such as MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required Hands-on aptitude and flexibility to work in service organization supporting changing needs of customers, ability to prioritize the top business needs. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
