Associate Engineer - Acoustics

Location: Granville, Ohio - United States PURPOSE OF THE JOB Owens Corning is committed to making the world better, safer, and more sustainable. The Acoustic Research Center is a key component in ensuring our products perform in the markets and applications in which they are used. This entry level engineering position executes vibration and acoustic testing safely while maintaining and improving test accuracy in the lab. In addition, the Acoustic Research Center Associate Engineer provides acoustic testing for external clients. In addition, the Acoustic Research Center Associate Engineer will drive for new and improved testing capabilities, participate on project teams, and own responsibilities for the Laboratory Information Management System and NVLAP/ISO accreditation. Reports to : Leader of Acoustic and Insulation Product Laboratories JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Safety and Continuous Improvement (approximate 20%) Live the Owens Corning safety culture maintaining 100% safe laboratory. Provide safe specimen preparation and testing for internal/external customers Identify and drive for solutions to safety risks. Identify key test variables, minimize and maintain variation through safety focused process solutions Develop and own processes for preventative maintenance of equipment used in the lab. Drive continuous improvement through autonomation of testing processes and communicate value clearly Acoustic Testing (approximate 65%) Lead Acoustic Testing Plan and execute acoustic performance testing. Coordinate scheduling of acoustic test chambers/systems to drive testing efficiency. Utilize LIMS to track lab usage identifying customer use rate for each division of the business Provide data analysis and provide updates to customers with insights. Lead and mentor one or more contractors supporting the Acoustic Research Center. Clearly articulate the results and analysis informally/formally to customers Validate test results and quality of data Lead calibration of all lab test equipment used for accredited testing Inspect and verify accuracy of data in LIMS software and test reports as necessary. Lab Liaison to Product Engineering and Project Teams Participate on project team to identify planning and critical testing needs Provide guidance and insight on appropriate acoustic testing done internally/externally Provide statistical analysis of data demonstrating clear understanding of results to guide future testing Acoustic testing steward for the project team Participate and lead ASTM standardization E33 subcommittees/task groups Acoustic Research Center Development (approximate time 15%) Analyze available information, determine opportunities for lab growth, develop plan, and request funding. Innovatively create new testing solutions and partner with Lab Leader to fund. Innovate equipment and/or processes to drive lab growth. Share learnings and knowledge through technical transfer (i.e. tech reports, external papers, training, etc?) JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor?s degree in Engineering or Physics Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred EXPERIENCE : Knowledge of a laboratory environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES : Willingness to work hands on in the lab. Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Ability to collaborate and work directly with a diverse group of peers, Research Engineers, Scientists and other team members to complete a project from start to finish. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to interface with clients directly and effectively. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
