Program Director - Advanced Manufacturing

Location: Granville, Ohio - United States Description This position is accountable to manage the resources responsible for the development, oversight, and execution of growth initiatives for the Owens Corning. Growth projects are generally defined as those projects typically ranging from $30MM to in excess of $100MM in investment that bring new capabilities to our customers, markets and business strategies across the company. It is incumbent on the Director to assure that all projects follow the Total Productive Maintence (TPM) Stage Gated Process and Standardized Work Practices established within the program leadership center of excellence (COE). This position is responsible for leading the all phases of program execution from initiation through commercialization. The program director is a significant leader within the organization and as such this is an executive position within Owens Corning. The program director will report to the business unit where the investment will be deployed, typically the business owner of the program (VP Operations, VP of Marketing, VP and GM of the business segment, etc.), and have dotted line reporting to the VP of Advanced Manufacturing. Reports to : The position reports to the business unit owner of a growth program and dotted line to the VP Advanced Manufacturing. Span of Control : The primary scope of the position involves leading and engaging a cross functional team of Project Managers, leading all aspects of the growth program for the business. This can include workstreams in capital delivery, supply chain, product management, commercialization, operations, human resources, environmental / health and safety, etc. The program director is ultimately accountable with the business owner to deliver safely, on-time and on-budget the program as agreed to with the Owens Corning Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Responsibilities Developing and Executing Program Safety In partnership with the TPM SHE Pillar, develop and execute a strategy to further ensure safety in designs and execution of projects in a proactive methodology designed to ensure loss elimination. Program Execution Develop strategies based on best practices, standards and lessons learned to execute the unique characteristics of growth projects. A learning strategy should be developed throughout the program and executed at appropriate stages throughout the program. Critical tracking of assumptions, business case, and execution milestones will be paramount to success. Management of key stakeholders, from the Board to Executive Committee to business owners and operations will be key. Establishment of a robust steering committee with regular reviews and decision making processes will be the accountability of the program director with the business owner. The program director will be accountable for documenting critical decisions and keeping records of all aspects of the program from start to finish. Process Improvement and learning Analyze loss over the course of the project and ensure that lessons learned are captured and included in the project and stage gate process to ensure loss elimination and best practice integration in future projects. Utilize lessons learned from past projects and ensure a chain of learning maintained project to projects. In addition, ensure a collaborative approach within the organization is used during all execution phases. Leading and Developing Talent Be accountable for the development and alignment of all team roles and responsibilities. The director ensures that those roles and responsibilities are documented and articulated to each team member, modified as required, and accomplished throughout the program. Discusses growth and development plans with the employee(s) to ensure project roles / accountabilities support the individuals growth and development plans. Provide action and talent improvement opportunities on an individual basis identifying gaps and training opportunities. The director actively plans for both self and group succession and provides clear feedback ? both routine feedback (adhoc discussions based on project activities) and formal feedback (quarterly reviews related to growth and development plans) Recommends and supports project-specific mentoring relationships for growth areas and helps to secure the commitment of the mentor / expert. Provide action and talent improvement opportunities on an individual basis identifying gaps and upskilling opportunities. Executive Leadership and Presence The program director is an executive leadership position within the company responsible for investments typically ranging from $30MM to in execess of $100MM. It is expected that the program director lead and behave within Owens Corning?s leadership capabilities for growth and expect the same from the teams and organizations in which he or she is responsible for and interacts. The director will be able to move seamlessly through our matrixed organization and provide leadership and influence that ensures all program objectives are met. The ability to communicate through all levels of the organization and lead decision making up to and including the Executive Committee will be a key capability of this position. Leading complex change, the director will ensure all team members operate with the upmost integrity and respect throughout the program. Job Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : 10 years plus leadership experience Bachelor of Science in engineering, business or marketing required; Masters Degree preferred. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Complex project leadership, operations, and/or business development Proven track record of leading large cross functional teams of 50+ in size and consisting of both internal and external (or 3rd party) resources. Initiates innovative solutions, embracing change and challenging the status quo Proven ability to develop and drive focus and critical factors to attain short and long-term goals and aspirations Demonstrated track record of driving results in difficult situations and implements strategies in a timely and cost effective manner.
