Electrical Engineering Leader

Location: Granville, Ohio - United States The electrical engineering leader is accountable for leading engineers and working with process/product organization and project teams, in definition of electrical and control systems for process equipment in 90% of all Composite Solution Business (CSB) plants globally, to drive improvements in safety, productivity and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental and electrical safety compliance. Responsibilities include translating needs to engineering calculations, specifications, scopes, estimates and design packages; preparing documentation for procurement of equipment, contracts for installation and provide start up and support of the systems; and analyze options to obtain maximum returns on capital investment through innovation and application of new technology. Electrical engineering leader will also be engaged on operational projects with project managers to optimize definition of scopes for electrical and control systems for large projects to maximize Return on Net Asset (RONA). Electrical engineering leader will manage 3-6 projects derived from larger capital programs ranging in value between $30M to $40MM, $5MM - $6MM annualized. 50% travel globally can be anticipated. The successful candidate must be a flexible individual that can work effectively across the global organization, be a good communicator, and excel at teamwork and leadership. The individual must be comfortable on the manufacturing plant floor for equipment start-up and commissioning. This position will be based out of Granville, Ohio and requires a 50% travel. Reports to : Engineering Leader Span of Control : 4 direct reports globally Manages several contract engineers in design of electrical and control systems Manages multiple turn key electrical and control contracts on an annual basis Typically leads 3-6 projects running concurrently in various stages JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Goal setting, metric definition and quarterly review and guidance for direct reports. Career planning and mentoring and development of direct reports. Lead sub-projects of a larger capital program towards consistent execution and continuous optimization of electrical and control systems globally for CSB. Interface with project managers to optimize definition of scopes for electrical and control systems for large projects to maximize RONA based on the understanding of total fiberglass production engineering schemes. Lead engineers, internal process group, or external companies to execute the design, implementation and control of process systems. Coordinate with various process discipline counterparts on process interfaces, systems integration, and equipment installations (Civil, Electrical, HVAC, etc.) Develop cost estimates and scopes of work for internal engineering, external engineering firms, and deliver capital equipment. Obtain maximum returns on capital investment through innovation and application of new technology Develop specifications for procurement and design of electrical and control system. Supervise electrical and control designers, and electrical and control system design firms in the development of drawing. packages for process system equipment: hardware selection, drawings, layouts, and interface diagrams Ensure the Owens Corning safety culture is maintained through the design. Lead preliminary safety, risk and failure analysis of new technology, trials, and design changes. Lead continuous improvement and benchmarking through all aspects of thermal system engineering including project management, cost and schedule performance, life expectancy and extension of all assets, technical details and constructability, all to deliver and improve upon asset reliability and return on net assets. Manage concurrent projects proactively and strategically. Provide complex and innovative solutions to design and construction problems. Apply strong software applications for communicating, analyzing, and reporting on projects. Communicate technical concepts and results to an audience of variable technical and process understanding clearly. JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering Minimum of 10 years manufacturing and/or design experience in the glass or related industry, with direct exposure to the melting process and associated furnace systems Minimum of 3 years leadership/supervisory experience PREFERRED EXPERIENCE : Proficient with AutoCAD Design and Inventor Modeling Software, and other related design packages. Modular design/implementation experience Furnace control system experience Process development expertise Design for manufacturing skills TPM knowledge and experience Solid experience of OSHA regulations relating to design and construction processes Project Engineering Plant Engineering Design and specification of electrical and control systems Electrical Engineering degree BSEE Proven track record of successfully managing definition, design and execution of Electrical and controls projects KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES : Knowledge of total fiberglass production engineering schemes Knowledge of PLC, DCS, electrical regulations, electrical safety regulations, process control systems Knowledgeable in the development of P&IDs, hardware selection, layouts and interface drawings. Experience in equipment check out, debugging, start-up / commissioning and troubleshooting. Ability to provide complex and innovative solutions to design and construction problems.
